Funding a fully-fledged athletics facility is a large undertaking for a community based athletics club despite the enthusiasm of the club members and stakeholders. The club have approached public bodies such as Sport England and Durham County Council but they are unable to fund the project in part due to the difficult financial times including the recent recession. It is therefore evident that even if the club cannot raise all of the required funding it must at least lead the fund raising itself. It is equally evident that the funding is unlikely to come from one source but from a number of sources including grants from the public and private sector. It is hoped that a significant turn-key grant can be secured which will encourage others to make smaller contributions to make up the total. The Friends of Sedgefield Harriers and the club itself have undertaken to raise funds themselves while the turn-key funder is found and they been successful in raising significant sums and commitments.
